Are Millennials Prone to Switching Jobs?

Millennials, the generation born in the US between 1977 and 1997, are prone to switching jobs--approximately 91% of Millennials work in jobs for three years or less, according to a 2012 survey by Future Workplace. In comparison, the US average rate of changing jobs is every 4.4 years, as reported by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. If Millennials continued switching jobs at the rate of every three years of less, they would have an estimated 15 to 20 jobs in their lifetimes. This decline in long-term employment at one organization is thought to be the result of an unstable job market stemming from the aftermath of the 2007 economic recession.
