How can I Decorate my Child's Room on a Budget?

So, you want to decorate your child's room and create a fun new look, but you are on a tight budget. There are plenty of ways to transform a child's room without spending a lot of money. One of the best ideas to decorate your child's room on a budget is to use children's artwork in the space. Once you have decided on a theme or a color, have your child create coordinating, custom artwork. Frame the artwork in cute picture frames that pick up on the theme or the color.

Whenever you decorate and you want to make a big impact without spending a lot of money, paint is a great choice. You can change the entire look and feel of your child's room by changing the color, even if you don't change anything else in the space. A faux painting technique is also a great way to decorate, because not only will it save you money by using less paint, but it will also add a lot of interest.

Another way to save money, and to save yourself from extra work when you decorate, is to create a focal wall. You can paint or wallpaper just one wall to make the room more dramatic. Since the bed is the largest piece of furniture in most bedrooms, it tends to become the instant focal point. You can decorate around it, or you can play on this feature by placing the bed against the focal wall to make it even more dramatic. Another option is using a focal wall to balance the large piece by painting it the same color as the bed or the bedding and placing the bed parallel to it.

You will probably want to change the look of the bedding when you decorate, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to replace everything. You can purchase new sheets, but keep the existing comforter. If you also want to change the look of the comforter, buy two matching flat sheets and make a duvet cover. It's quite simple really. It's like making a giant pillowcase and it only requires sewing straight lines, or using iron-on hem tape to attach the pieces.

I love all the my local home decorating stores because you can find nautical, contemporary, Asian, cottage, and many other styles there. The prices are cheap because there might be a tiny chip or a stain or a rip somewhere - keep your eyes peeled for those.

Decorating ideas can come from the pages of a magazine, a friend's house, or from a TV show. Being aware of what you are looking for will help you notice it when it appears right in front of you.

I love stores with a global influence. Maybe because I grew up all over the world and relate to a wide variety of art and furniture styles. But for those people who maybe haven't bothered to look at a decorating magazine, I'd say to: You will know what it is that you love when you see it. You'll have a physical or emotional response to it. This is what it means to find your decorating style.

Decorating tips for a child's bedroom are always the same: start over by repainting and introducing a new theme - or even a non-theme.

Knowing your child's preferences and favorite superheros or cartoons makes for an easy transition from preschooler to elementary student.

From elementary to middle school, your child will want to create a more mature look. Let him help decide on colors and styles.

Some kids want a room that spells comfort over style. For this redecorating, something as simple as adding a water bed will make all the difference to a young teen.
