While embossing is seen by many as a very difficult craft, when done correctly, it is actually quite simple. In order to successfully emboss, crafters require the use of a tool known as an embossing template, which will provide the design to the material of their choice. For best results in choosing an embossing template, it is important that customers look for a template that has been made from the correct materials. In addition, selecting a template of the correct difficulty level and with high, raised edges is also important. Though price should not be the sole consideration when choosing embossing templates, it should also be considered.

In order to achieve the greatest results when embossing, it is essential that crafters start off with embossing templates that have been made from the right materials. Typically, the best embossing templates are made from brass, through acrylic templates have increased in quality and thus are another popular option. It is important that crafters avoid templates that are made from plastic, glass, or other materials that are highly sensitive to heat or impact as embossing commonly uses both of these techniques. Those who have a difficult time choosing an embossing template are typically encouraged to seek assistance from a professional in their area. He or she should be able to recommend a high quality template that will provide years of use.

Next, those who are interested in purchasing an embossing template should look for a product that features a design appropriate for their current ability level. Typically, beginning embossers are encouraged to select templates which feature large designs with broad borders, while more advanced crafters can use more intricate designs. It is important that those who are new to embossing choose a design that is not too difficult in order to prevent disappointment or frustration.

Crafters should also be sure to look for an embossing template that features high, raised edges and borders in order to get the most dramatic effect. Templates whose borders are too shallow will not provide the best results, and can be very difficult to use. This is especially important for those who are embossing leather or other materials that are relatively thick and sturdy.

In order to find the best embossing templates, price should also be considered. Those who are just starting are typically encouraged to choose more inexpensive embossing templates in the event that they don't enjoy the craft. Those who are more experienced should simply keep an appropriate budget in mind when choosing a template.

Where is the best place to buy embossing tools? I have seen a few of them at my local craft store, but would like to find a place that has more of a selection.

Since this is all new to me, I am looking for some choices that are not too expensive, but will give quality results.

I know a lot of people like to make their own greeting cards, but I think using embossing templates adds a unique touch that you don't see very often.

I am not much of a creative, artistic person, but do like to use embossing stencils to personalize my own stationary.

One of the easiest and most elegant is to use the first letter of my last name. This can make a nice first impression with very little effort.

Another one of my favorite designs is to use a simple floral border. I have found that simple is usually better as one design has more of an effect than many different designs.
