In order to choose the best vitamin C serum, it is important to first assess the goals that one hopes to achieve by using this kind of product. The next step is to search for a product that will help one to achieve these goals while also working well with one's skin type. Many people use vitamin C serum in order to lighten or brighten their skin tone. It can also be used to help diminish certain signs of aging, particularly discoloration and darker patches in the skin that may be the result of sun exposure and sun damage. Vitamin C serum can also be used in order to lighten or fade scarring that may be the result of injury, blemishes, or acne.

Once one has identified the key purposes that vitamin C serum is meant to serve, one must assess one's skin type. If one has very dry skin, it is important to choose a serum that will help to hydrate the skin and will not cause further dryness. A person who is battling acne may want to search for a vitamin C serum that is also good at healing blemishes and pimples while also working to stop the occurrence of future breakouts. In this case, it may be best to choose a serum that is part of an acne treatment system that includes other acne-fighting skin care products. Someone with oily skin should search for a serum that can help to control the oil on her face.

It is also important to choose a vitamin C serum that will work well with one's daily skin care regimen. If one plans to use the serum on a daily basis, then it is important to find a product that can be worn under makeup. For this purpose, it may be best to purchase a vitamin C serum that is intended for day wear. These sorts of serums are often lighter and can be worn under makeup without interfering with the cosmetics.

For those who are looking for a more intensive vitamin C serum, it may be best to use a product that is indicated for use at night. This kind of product is usually a bit heavier and is meant to be applied before bed. Another way to enjoy the benefits of vitamin C is to use a vitamin C mask on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

@SarahGen-- You should read reviews before deciding on a vitamin C serum. I've tried three different ones so far. The first two I had bought on a whim without doing any research and I didn't like them. The last one, I read reviews of before I ordered and I'm very pleased with it. A product might sound great but if it doesn't work, it's a waste of money.

@SarahGen-- Not all serums mention the percentage of vitamin C. But I think that a good serum should. If a serum doesn't mention the percentage, check the ingredients list. If vitamin C is at the end of the list, then it doesn't have much vitamin C. If it's more toward the beginning, then the serum has a considerable amount of vitamin C.

The anti-aging vitamin C serum I'm using actually has the potency on the label, it's 20%. And I must say, it's working great. I had dark spots and blemishes on my cheeks and slowly, they are going away.

How much vitamin C should a skin serum have in order to be effective? Do vitamin C serums usually mention the potency on the label?
