The way to wear a denim blazer, also called a denim jacket or jean jacket, depends largely on its style and color, but denim is usually a casual fabric. The most important point when wearing a denim blazer is to pair it with other clothes that are not denim. Wearing a denim jacket with jeans, for example, probably is denim overkill and can look dated. One popular way to wear a jean jacket is over a sundress, which provides a nice contrast in fabric and allows a summer piece to be worn in cooler weather. Pairing a denim jacket with a neutral shirt and pants is also a classic casual look.

Denim comes in a large variety of styles and colors. It is most often blue but can also be black, white, brown or other colors. Although denim is most appropriate for casual wear, lighter denim with a distressed appearance looks the most casual, and darker hues can be worn in a dressier way. Of course, denim is one of the most versatile fabrics and can be paired with a large variety of other pieces.

Although the rules for wearing denim are bendable and even breakable, there is one that should always be followed: Do not wear more than one denim piece in an outfit. If you wear jeans, don't wear a denim jacket with them, even if they are different colors. It looks much nicer to contrast a denim blazer with a different type of fabric.

Wearing a jean jacket can be a great way to get more use out of lighter clothing that would otherwise be worn only in warm weather. A summer dress or light blouse can look great when paired with a denim jacket. Any color or wash of denim could be worn with these pieces and will provide contrast for bold patterns and floral prints. A more form-fitting denim blazer in a darker color could even be worn in this way for evening, if the overall atmosphere is still somewhat casual.

A classic outfit that is very easy to wear could be a denim blazer paired with a white T-shirt or blouse and khaki or black pants. Even pants or shirts in dressier or more tailored fabrics look great this way. Large pieces of jewelry or a bold handbag can be paired with this type of outfit without being overwhelming.

I have also worn my denim blazer with a white t shirt and long patterned linen skirt (tan, white, brown, and blue stripes). It gives a pleasant hippie feel, in my opinion.
