Bran, eggs, milk, apples and the other healthy ingredients make apple bran muffins a popular choice for breakfast, but they easily can be dressed to serve for dessert. The type and amount of apples can play a role in the texture, sweetness, and tartness of the muffins. Applesauce is also a common ingredient. To create an interesting flavor and texture, many bakers use combinations of different types of apples when preparing muffins. Additionally, people who are not particularly savvy in the kitchen may prefer to buy a plain bran muffin mix and add diced apples.

One of the most obvious ingredients in apple bran muffins is apples. There are many types of apples, and the kind used can have a major impact on the flavor and texture of the muffins. Often, people use a combination of apples so the muffins will have a pleasant blend of tartness and sweetness. One common combination includes golden delicious apples for sweetness and granny smith apples for tartness. Although most apples can be baked with ease, some types of apples do not bake well and are rarely used in muffins, such as red delicious apples.

Apple bran muffins usually have small chunks of apples in them, but some people prefer the texture of the muffins when finely minced apples are used. The amount of apple used depends on the recipe. Additionally, many people enjoy using applesauce in their muffins for added moisture. To increase the apple flavor and create texture, people occasionally use small and large apple chunks as well as applesauce.

The amount of bran used in the muffins can alter the flavor and texture as well. Most recipes call for a blend of wheat flour and bran. Wheat bran flour gives the muffins a natural healthy taste. Even when preparing apple bran muffins at home, some people choose to purchase a bran muffin mix and simply add the desired amount of apples. To add more flavor, texture, and health benefits, it is common to add nuts to the muffin batter as well.

People enjoy eating apple bran muffins at different times of the day. The most common time to eat any kind of muffin is at breakfast, and apple bran muffins provide the combination of carbohydrates and fruit that many people prefer to have in the morning. Many people also believe that apple bran muffins are an excellent choice for dessert muffins. Some people top the muffin in sugar, honey, or whipped cream. Serving the muffins with caramelized apples is also a common after-dinner treat.

There is a bakery close to my house that makes amazing apple bran muffins. I am not usually a fan of bran muffins but these are decadent and delicious. They are also huge! It is a challenge to eat a whole one. Often I will wrap up half and save it for later.

What kind of apples do you usually use when you make apple bran muffins? Does it matter? If I switch up the kinds of apples can I change the flavor of the muffins?

Apple bran muffins are one of my favorite kinds of muffins. I have a great recipe that I got out of an Amish cookbook about ten years ago and I often make them for breakfast on Sunday mornings before church. They are easy to make, delicious and filling and an easy on the go breakfast for when the whole family needs to be somewhere.
