Chakra oils are therapeutic-grade essential oils that open, balance, and heal various energy centers throughout the body. There are seven major chakras in the human body, and each one possesses its own correlation to health and well-being. Chakra oils are typically mixtures of several different types of essential oils and are employed with the aim of stimulating the natural processes unique to each chakra. While chakra oils can be comprised of any number of essential oils, each chakra traditionally has one kind of oil with which it is most associated.

The crown chakra, located at the top of the head, is most often identified with the essential oil of frankincense. Dabbing a bit of frankincense on the crown can promote chakra healing by alleviating depression, grief, and anxiety. Frankincense used in conjunction with ylang-ylang and lavender can further enhance these properties.

Chakra oils for the brow chakra — which includes the face, eyes, ears, and endocrine system — usually contain lemon or rosemary. Lemon helps focus the thoughts, center the mind, and cool the body. Rosemary clears away fatigue and mental pressure, allowing for a fuller chakra balancing experience.

The throat chakra is benefited by using essential oils of the tea tree. These oils refresh and invigorate the system. They also serve to stimulate the mind.

Rose oil is a perfect chakra oil for the heart chakra. The heart chakra commands the heart and circulatory system and handles the emotions of compassion and love. The sweet scent and metaphysical properties of the rose can soothe out-of-control emotions; promote feelings of love and well-being; and strengthen the bond between the body, spirit, and mind. All of these aspects are important when opening chakras with oils.

The solar plexus chakra is located between the naval and the rib cage and is imbued with power over an individual's confidence and will. The essential oil of the juniper plant is an excellent accompaniment to opening the solar plexus chakra. It cleanses the aura, empowers the individual, and keeps negative energies at bay.

About 2 inches (5 centimeters) below the navel resides the sacral chakra. This chakra is charged with sexual energy, as well as energies of the reproductive and muscular systems and several vital internal organs. Jasmine and sandalwood oils are exceptionally beneficial for the sacral chakra, directing sexual energy and rejuvenating the body and mind.

The tail bone houses the base chakra, which is most often associated with vetiver oil. Vetiver is somewhat rare, but its potent properties help in a variety of conditions. It aids in balancing the central nervous system, harnessing scattered thoughts, and better rooting the body to the earth.
