Dandelion capsules are herbal supplements that are made from the dandelion plant. The root and leaves are the parts of the plant most often used to make capsules. Dandelion is used for a variety of purposes, including liver cleansing, increased bile and urine flow, and reduction of intestinal inflammation. The essential vitamins often found in dandelion capsules include vitamins A, B, C and D, and they can also provide magnesium, iron, potassium, and zinc.

Not all dandelion capsules are equal in quality; some contain additives and are irradiated, and some are not. The best option for those who want to optimize dandelion's potential benefits are pure supplements. The label on the bottle will state what is added to the capsules, if anything. Most national laws require data sheets to be accessible to consumers on the manufacturer's website or on the packaging. Capsules are available worldwide over the Internet or in health food stores and some supermarkets.

Liver detox has gained in popularity over recent years, as a method of ridding the liver of toxins, which can lead to weight loss. Advocates of liver detox diets often recommend dandelion capsules as a natural liver cleanse. It is also believed to promote healthy kidney function.

Dandelion is considered a safe and all natural herb that is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration and the Council of Europe. Many consumers take dandelion capsules twice a day with no adverse side effects. Some users may experience side effects, however, including allergic reaction.

Some of the side effects reported from consuming dandelion include stomach pain and ongoing diarrhea. Rashes, itching, and breathing problems are indicators of an allergic reaction to the capsules. Individuals with preexisting health conditions, such as diabetes, ulcers, gallstones, and stomach pain, should consult with a physician before taking dandelion capsules. Dandelion supplements may not interact well with prescriptions and other medications, and therefore consulting with a pharmacist or physician is recommended.

The standard dosage amount for adults is 500 milligrams, although many capsules contain a much lower dosage. The appropriate dosage amount differs for individuals and is based on the purpose for taking the capsules in the first place. Dietary programs may make recommendations, but in other instances, the advice of a health care provider is often necessary. Children can take dandelion capsules too, and the dosage amount is based on the weight of the child compared to an adult; users should talk to a medical professional to determine the appropriate dosage amount for a child.

I take a low dose dandelion root supplement because I do weight lifting regularly. I experience a lot of water retention due to my demanding exercise routine, and it probably has to do with the foods I eat as well.

Dandelion root is diuretic. It reduces water weight and makes me look slimmer. My muscles are also more apparent since I started this supplement.

@ZipLine-- I think they're all basically the same thing. They're made from the flowers and roots of dandelions and maybe also the leaves.

The dandelion capsules I take contain dandelion extract. It's mentioned on the label. So if there is a dandelion product you intend to buy, check the label or contact the company to find out what it's made from.

As far as I know, dandelion capsules, tinctures and also teas have the same health benefits. So they would all work well for a liver cleanse. But follow the directions; you shouldn't use it in high doses or more than a few days at a time.

What's the difference between dandelion capsules, dandelion extract and dandelion tincture?

Which should I take for a liver cleanse?
