People who are throwing a party with a zebra theme may want to serve zebra print cakes. These desserts consist of cakes with white frosting that has stripes of black icing added to make it resemble zebra stripes. The cakes can be round, square, rectangular, or cupcakes. Many consist of yellow or chocolate cake on the inside, and some have elaborate fillings such as crème, raspberry, or chocolate sandwich cookies.

In order to make zebra print cakes, a cook can first bake any type of cake she likes and then cover it with white frosting. This is normally applied very smoothly and evenly so that no ridges are visible. Some people like to use a special knife with a very long blade in order to keep the icing perfectly smooth.

After frosting the cake with white icing, stripes can be added by using black frosting. A special decorating tube may be needed in order to accomplish this. The stripes may be very wide or thin, and many cakes have a combination of the two.

A zebra print cake can take on many different forms. It may consist of round layers that are around eight or nine inches (20.32 to 22.86 cm) in diameter and stacked on top of one another to make a sort of pyramid. A cake with a zebra theme may also be around nine inches (22.86 cm) square or a 9 by 13 inch (22.86 by 33.02 cm) rectangular one. Cupcakes could also contain zebra stripes, although it might not be possible to add wide stripes to the top of one of these treats.

Some people like to add filling to zebra print cakes, especially when making one for a party. Fillings that that stick to the black and white color theme are popular, so crème fillings and chocolate sandwich cookies are often used in this manner. Hot pink party items are popular to use when creating a zebra theme, so raspberry filling might also be placed inside zebra striped cakes.

Decorations such as bows or black and white candies are sometimes added to zebra print cakes. This dessert could also be served on zebra print plates along with black or white napkins for a zebra party theme. A scoop of chocolate or vanilla ice cream could also complement this treat nicely. No matter what the occasion, a cake decorated in this manner is sure to please guests of all ages.

I am a little embarrassed to admit this but I absolutely love the zebra striped Hostess snack cakes. I know that they are terrible for you and that you can leave one in the sun and it will not go bad but that doesn't stop me from eating them.
