A SIM card holder is a case that protects SIM cards from damage. SIM card holders are specially manufactured to guard the viability of a SIM card so that potential damage to SIM card circuit boards is minimized. SIM card holders offer cell phone users a way to simultaneously protect their SIM cards and keep them all in one place.

In the past, many cell phone users were perplexed when attempting to store their SIM cards. Not very many companies offered a solution to protect, store and organize SIM cards, even though the SIM cards themselves were ubiquitous. As a result, many users opted to use flash or memory card cases to store their SIM cards. Soon, the market for SIM card holders was recognized and companies began providing their own legitimate solutions to the consumers' problem of needing a SIM card holder.

A SIM card holder can be made from a number of materials. Aluminum is the most popular material used to manufacturer SIM card cases. Aluminum's durability allows for extra protection of SIM cards.

SIM card cases may come with multiple slots to store more than one SIM card. Since many cell phone users often use multiple SIM cards with one phone, using a SIM card holder is an easy way to store and organize SIM cards. Owners of a SIM card holder may decide to organize their SIM cards based on any number of factors, including frequency of use, phone number, or SIM card contents. Spare SIM cards may even be allotted a slot in the SIM card carrier so that a cell phone user is never without a SIM card, should his primary SIM card ever be lost or damaged.

SIM card holders are usually very small. They are often no larger than the size of a credit card. The holders can easily fit into a wallet, a bag or even a back pocket.

Due to an increase in popularity, SIM card holders are available in more than one form. For example, they can now be purchased in the form of key rings so that users can have easy access to their SIM cards wherever they may go. In this way, a user's lifestyle may influence his purchase of a particular SIM card holder. Those who are active and constantly mobile may choose to purchase a key ring SIM card holder over others to minimize the possibility of misplacing the SIM card carrier.

@w00dchuck41 - My college is doing a newspaper project to take cell phone pictures around campus and make a student collage. All of the photographers in the newspaper class got extra SIM cards just for the project. It's actually coming along nicely.

A credit card sized SIM card holder? That's just what I need. I got one of the bulky clam shell style cases. It's holds way more than I need it to and it makes my purse lumpy. I only need to carry around five SIM cards, so it's overkill.

Thanks, I will definitely check those cases out. Maybe I'll ask if we can all get them for class.

@minthybear19 - I'm a little confused, why are you using SIM cards to store photography pictures? Why not use a camera and SD cards? You must have very nice phone.

I use a credit card sized SD card holder. It is rubber, so I can keep SIM cards in it too. Since it's the same size as a credit card, it's really easy to store in my wallet. I know that there are places that sell the same style of card holder only for SIM cards.

you should check it out sometime if you want something smaller. The SIM card holder I found holds ten cards.

I had a key chain SIM card holder for a really long time, but it had a bad habit of falling open every time I put my keys in my purse. I put a miniature paper clamp on it but it just got snagged on things and was more of a hassle then it was worth.

Eventually, I just change over to a multiple SIM card holder that I can tuck into my purse. I took up doing photography for the college newspaper and it just makes more sense now that I have to carry so many SIM cards around.
