A vinyl pool is a type of in-ground swimming pool that has a vinyl liner, like that of an above-ground pool. It is usually made by digging a hole in the ground and supporting this opening with a wooden or metal frame, then attaching the liner. These pools are typically less expensive than those made of concrete or fiberglass.
This outdoor pool can be round, rectangular, or oval in shape. A common size is 16 feet (4.88 m) by 32 feet (9.76 m). A vinyl pool that is round or oval might be around 16 feet (4.88 m) in diameter. The depth of the water generally ranges from three feet (.91 m) to 9 feet (2.75 m).
Typically, a construction company digs a hole in the ground for the framework and liner. Some additional digging might be necessary in order to run the plumbing connections from the pool motor to the swimming pool itself. This might need to be done by a licensed plumber in some areas.
After the excavation is complete, sand is normally added to the bottom of the hole to level it out. After this, the area can be stabilized by placing treated wooden beams or metal poles around the top. Finally, the liner can be attached to the frame, and the vinyl pool filled with water.
These in-ground pools can be sanitized with traditional pool chemicals. A homeowner might also choose to install a salt water chlorine system. Most of the time, a vinyl liner is not harmed by the use of these products.
While a vinyl pool usually retains its original shape, the liner itself can be prone to stretching or shrinking. For this reason, people should take care not to let the water level drop below the skimmer, or opening that filters leaves and other debris. They should also not fill the pool to the very top on a regular basis. Normally, a water level one or two inches (2.54 to 5.08 cm) from the top is ideal for most pools.
This type of outdoor pool can also be susceptible to tears or rips in the liner. For this reason, sharp objects should be kept away from the liner at all times. If a tear does occur, it can normally be repaired with a patch kit available at many swimming pool supply stores.
A vinyl pool generally looks much like an in-ground pool constructed of concrete. It usually takes less time to construct than these models, however. Homeowners who wish to have an attractive outdoor pool might want to consider having one of these installed rather than purchasing an above-ground model.
