Pilates is a well-known exercise that uses graceful, fluid movement in order to strengthen the exerciser's core and increase his or her flexibility. The Wunda chair is a machine that applies resistance to the movements in a pilates workout. It essentially is a box with a large pedal that can be pressed against the resistance of springs. The chair helps to stretch and strengthen muscle groups that are not reachable through traditional Pilates exercises. The list of exercises that can be done on the Wunda chair is virtually endless.

The original Wunda chair is made of wood. It has foam padding anywhere the body comes into contact with machine, including the seat and the pedals. The chair also has springs and elastic cords that create the resistance. The appended straps are flexible, and the headrest makes it more comfortable.

A Wunda chair typically is 25 inches (63.5 cm) tall, 75 inches (190.5 cm) wide and 40 inches (101.6 cm) long. It also weighs about 65 pounds (29.5 kg), but the chair comes with wheels to make it easier to move. Its overall size is conveniently small for storage up against a wall or in the corner of a room. It also converts into a stylish chair that can add to the decor of a room and create extra seating for guests.

The chair comes with three different spring tensions: low for the beginner or less-experienced user, middle for the intermediate user and high for the experienced user. The springs are easily adjusted by sliding them up and down the center pole. This increases how many springs are activated and at what point they are activated. It is designed to be easily adjusted, even in the middle of performing an exercise. User can perform exercises in many positions, including prone, seated, side-seated, supine and standing next to or on various parts of the chair.
