The Science Place features exhibits for hands-on exploration, workshops, and other programs that develop children’s understanding of and interest in science and math. The highlight of the Dallas Museum of Natural History is the reconstruction of a local dinosaur discovered near Fort Worth. Other exhibits include rare wildlife, and a rock and mineral collection.

There are two aquariums to choose from when traveling with children in Dallas: the Dallas World Aquarium and the Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park. The first features “Orinoco—Secrets of the River” which is a Venezuelan rain forest environment. The second has nearly 6,000 aquatic animals, ranging from electric eels to piranhas.

Outdoor activities you can do with children in Dallas include the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden has one of the largest collections of azaleas in the United States, as well as some historic dwellings. The Dallas Zoo, besides being the oldest zoo in the state of Texas, was recently renovated, and one of its exhibits—“Wilds of Africa” has been named the finest African-themed zoo feature in the country. There is also a children’s zoo.

If you want to make your time with children in Dallas educational, you can learn about Texas history. Check out the Sixth Floor Museum where you can learn about the life and assassination of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, located at Dealey Plaza, where the assassination took place.

If you live in Texas, Arlington and Dallas are separate places, but to an out-of-state family, the 20 minute drive may seem like just a stone’s throw and worth traveling for the sake of the kids. Arlington is the home of both Six Flags over Texas, which offers Texas-themed attractions and rides, including the Texas Giant, which rates among the largest wooden roller coasters anywhere. Six Flags also has a water park.

For the sports and ecology minded, Arlington offers River Legacy Park, with its paths for inline skating, hiking, and biking, also has a playground and Science Center. So if you're spending time with children in Dallas, you may want to look a bit beyond the city limits for enjoyable family activities.

While there are numerous fun activities to enjoy with children in Dallas, it's also essential to prioritize their health and well-being. Consider consulting with Dallas dietitians to ensure your family maintains a balanced and nutritious diet while exploring the city.
