Where in the US Do Most People Get Married?

California has more marriages each year than any other state in the US, according to data from 2009. Measured in absolute numbers (i.e., not relative to total population), California and Texas have the most marriages, likely due to their large populations. Florida comes in third and New York, despite its relatively small geographical size, is the fourth most popular state for marriages. Nevada is the fifth most popular, likely due to its fairly relaxed laws regarding marriage requirements, and the fact that weddings in Las Vegas have been romanticized in numerous movies and television shows.

More information about weddings:

  • Due to its small size and population, the District of Columbia has the lowest number of weddings each year, though North Dakota is a fairly close second.
  • June through October are typically the most popular months for US weddings, though a mild winter can also make May a popular choice.
  • Marriage rates declined from 8.2 per 1,000 people in 2000 to 6.8 per 1,000 people in 2010. Fortunately, divorce rates experienced a similar decrease over that time period.

Adding onto this article, in the United States, it seems like more and more people are getting married at an earlier age. As an example, many of my friends got married straight out of college.
